Skin rejuvenation with the eCO2 Plus™ laser

The eCO2 Plus™ laser is part of the latest generation of laser technologies. It combines two innovative methods to stimulate the body’s natural regeneration processes and thereby presents an opportunity for maximum optimisation. The laser combines ablative skin removal, which removes the uppermost layer of your skin, with a fractional technique. The procedure causes countless microscopic wounds to the skin in specific locations, leaving the areas in between untouched. Consequently, the skin heals more quickly and with fewer side effects than after a traditional laser treatment.

Treatments using the eCO2 Plus™ laser take less time than conventional treatments. Each session only takes around 20 minutes, depending on the area treated (e.g. face). Another benefit is the short recovery time, which means that you will require very little time to recover, if any at all. There are also hardly any side effects. You should be able to see initial changes in your complexion after the first treatment.

A laser treatment can lead to the surface of the skin feeling smoother and looking more even in a short period of time. Your skin will take on a fresher, more radiant and more youthful complexion overall. Once the full effects of the treatment have developed after a few weeks or months, your complexion will be rejuvenated.

The eCO2 Plus™ laser can be used to treat fine, moderate and deep wrinkles, irregular pigmentation (e.g. liver spots, freckles, hyperpigmentation), scars (e.g. acne scars, burn scars), stretch marks (e.g. after pregnancy or significant weight loss) and large-pored skin. The laser is typically used to treat areas such as the face, neck, décolleté and upper arms.

In the three weeks leading up to a laser treatment, you should protect your skin against direct sunlight and wear sun cream with a high sun protection factor (SPF 50). Laser treatment is not well suited to recently tanned skin, whether tanned naturally from sunbathing or in a solarium. You should therefore schedule your treatment here at the prevention-center in Zurich in time for your summer holiday. Before a laser treatment, you will benefit from a detailed consultation with Dr Köhler or one of our other certified medical laser assistants at the prevention-center in Zurich. This will allow us to examine your personal wishes and expectations and how we can achieve them in practice. If you are a suitable candidate for laser treatment with the eCO2 Plus™ laser, we will explain the potential benefits and risks as well as what the treatment process involves.

On the treatment day, we will apply a local anaesthetic cream to the treatment area. As soon as the anaesthetic takes effect, we will start the laser treatment, slowly guiding the laser device over the relevant areas of skin. Countless laser beams will be delivered to specific points on your skin, leaving the surrounding areas untouched. At the same time, the upper layer of skin will be removed, with lower layers heated. All of these processes stimulate the skin’s regeneration processes, promoting natural collagen production and achieving firmer skin with a fresher complexion.

You will be able to leave our clinic in Zurich immediately after the treatment. Make sure to follow our tips to support the healing process (incl. sun protection, skin care).

Following the laser treatment, you should cool the treated area and practice a specific skin care routine, which we will explain to you. Protect the treated area against direct sunlight and use a suncream with a high sun protection factor (SPF 50).

Several sessions are usually required to achieve optimal results. Exactly how many sessions depends on the treated area and the condition of your skin. In our experience at the prevention-center in Zurich, it is worth arranging at least 3 to 4 sessions (or more for particularly deep scars) at 3 to 4-week intervals. In most cases, we achieve optimal results within around 6 months.

Before administering the laser treatment, we apply a local anaesthetic to the relevant area of skin, so patients barely feel anything during the treatment. In addition, cool air will be continuously directed across the treated area throughout the laser treatment to prevent the skin from becoming too warm.

Slight swelling and redness may develop in the treated area. However, such symptoms usually subside on their own within a few days. As a basic rule, the more intense the laser treatment, the more pronounced the side effects are likely to be. We can configure the laser intensity to your individual needs, so less intense treatments may require several sessions to achieve the desired results.
