According to an estimate by the Society of Urology, 500,000 men in Switzerland alone suffer from erectile dysfunction. The age groups between 60 and 79 are particularly affected, but younger men can also be affected by erectile dysfunction. According to a study by the University Hospital Zurich, 17.5 percent of men between the ages of 24 and 26 are affected by erectile dysfunction. The main cause in men between the ages of 60 and 79 is damage to the blood vessels in the penis. The decrease in blood flow to the penis leads to a lack of erections or erection hardness. Shockwave therapy offers an innovative treatment option to stimulate the growth of new blood vessels in the penis and significantly increase penile blood flow.

Linear shock wave technology for the treatment of erectile dysfunction has been used successfully in practice for years. This innovative treatment is also successfully used for men with other sexual dysfunctions or chronic prostatitis, penile curvature (Pevronie’s disease or induratio penis plastica) and chronic pelvic pain.

Frequently asked questions about shock wave therapy

What is shock wave therapy?

Although shock wave therapy with low therapy has been known for a long time, it has only been used to treat erectile dysfunction for a few years and is therefore still considered a relatively new method. Medical findings confirm the positive effect of this application, which is enjoying growing international popularity in the field of impotence treatment. As part of shock wave therapy, we not only treat the symptom in our clinic, but primarily the cause.

What are the advantages of shock wave therapy?

Shock wave therapy has been growing in popularity for several years now, as it offers a number of advantages. Our customers benefit above all from the pain-free treatment, which has not yet been proven to have any side effects. Shockwave therapy can be easily integrated into everyday life, as it only takes half an hour and requires no downtime. More than 80 % of the men treated are satisfied after the treatment.

Why should I undergo shock wave therapy?

Our shock wave system has a specially developed transducer that sets it apart from other techniques. This allows us to treat not only the outer, visible erectile tissue without pain, but also the part that runs further into the body. Erection hardness is directly related to the blood flow in the inner erectile tissue. Shock wave therapy in our clinic promotes blood circulation in the penis and triggers the formation of new blood vessels. The body’s own stem cells are activated so that the regeneration of erectile tissue and nerve cells is promoted in a natural way.

How much does shock wave therapy for erectile dysfunction cost and are the costs covered by health insurance?

At our clinic, you can pay the amount due directly after the treatment, either in cash or by major credit card. Shock wave therapy is not covered by health insurance. A Tarmed tariff settlement is therefore also not possible.

Four sessions at the prevention-center Zurich cost CHF 1,900 including information and follow-up treatment. Alternatively, eight sessions can be booked for CHF 3,400.

How often does the treatment have to be repeated?

Around 90% of erectile dysfunction is caused by vascular changes in the penis. This main cause can be specifically counteracted with shock wave therapy. According to the latest medical research, it is recommended in most cases to have 4 to 8 treatments at weekly intervals or 2 treatments per week.

How does shock wave therapy work?

We carry out shock wave therapy in our clinic on an outpatient basis. It usually takes no more than 30 minutes and is painless and uncomplicated for the customer. No side effects have been described to date, so that shock wave treatment is considered to be very safe. It usually takes a little while for the full effect to unfold. The final treatment results can be expected around 6 to 8 weeks after the start of therapy.

Is shock wave therapy painful?

Shock wave therapy is completely painless.

Is shock wave therapy really safe?

Shock wave therapy is considered a very safe treatment method. There are no known side effects at our clinic as we use the latest and safest technologies, which have been thoroughly tested beforehand. Our new applicator has been specially designed for use on the penis and is approved for this by all authorities.

What do I have to consider after the treatment?

Following shock wave therapy, you do not have to expect any restrictions or downtime. As a rule, you can also resume sporting and sexual activities immediately.

Is there a follow-up check?

Although a follow-up check is not necessary, we would be pleased if you would contact us eight weeks after the start of treatment so that we can discuss together how successful the treatment has been for you. If necessary, we can also arrange further follow-up treatments during this discussion.

Who is shock wave therapy suitable for?

For most of our customers who suffer from erectile dysfunction, shock wave therapy is the appropriate treatment method. However, the following criteria should be met:

  • The main cause of your erectile dysfunction is vascular changes
  • The penis should be strengthened and possible dysfunctions prevented
  • The erection should be longer, harder and more lasting
  • You suffer from penile curvature (Peyronie’s disease or induratio penis plastica)
  • After preliminary examinations by the urologist, there is regular pain and discomfort in the small pelvis, such as chronic non-bacterial prostatitis
  • Sexual stamina and sexual sensation should be increased
  • You would like to avoid taking sexual enhancers in the future
  • You want a natural therapy without pain
