All medical treatments require prior consultation. A personalized estimate can be drawn up following this consultation.
If the skin on the lower eyelids loses elasticity and firmness, those affected often develop so-called bags under the eyes. If this is the case, pockets of skin form on the lower eyelids, into which fatty tissue is also deposited in some people.
Although excess skin on the lower eyelids is primarily caused by advancing age, factors such as prolonged exposure to strong sunlight, stress and lack of sleep also contribute to decreasing skin elasticity. This means that younger people can also suffer from bags under the eyes. While the resulting discomfort often relates to the aesthetic consequences of excess skin on the lower eyelid, the stretched skin under the eyelids can also lead to physically unpleasant sensations.
With the help of an aesthetic surgical procedure, it is possible to reduce the consequences of the loss of skin elasticity on the eyelids and thus help customers to achieve an improved body image. In some cases, a lower eyelid lift (lower blepharoplasty) can also be achieved using laser radiation.
Advantages of a lower eyelid lift at the prevention-center Zurich
- Many years of experience in lower eyelid lifting
- Detailed advice and planning of the surgery
- Highest hygiene & quality standards
- Overcorrections are avoided by careful examination during the operation
- Customized treatment techniques to preserve the natural shape of the eye
Before lower eyelid correction
Before a tightening lower eyelid correction is performed, a detailed consultation with the client is essential. During this consultation, the client explains their desired changes, while the treating doctor presents a suitable treatment procedure.
In the run-up to treatment, it is important that the customer takes various behavioral measures to heart. For example, smokers undergoing treatment are asked to stop smoking as far as possible around two weeks before the operation. In addition, caution is advised when taking medication that affects blood clotting – the use of medication such as aspirin or Marcumar should be avoided after consultation with a doctor if possible in order to reduce the risk of bleeding during the procedure.
The lower eyelid lift
The surgical treatment in Zurich begins with the induction of anesthesia, which is usually localized in the context of a lower eyelid lift. The individual course of the operation is then based on the respective findings:
If the tissue of the lower eyelid shows signs of sagging to a greater degree, a horizontal incision is made through the skin and eyelid muscles. After removing excess fat and skin tissue, the muscles are then attached to the bone envelope.
If a client has bags under the eyes that are associated with only moderately sagging tissue, fat tissue can also be removed from the direction of the nose. Either incision or laser technology is used for this purpose. This treatment method does not include the eyelid muscles – the focus here is on removing excess fat and skin tissue.
Finally, if a client suffers from very severe sagging of the skin of the lower eyelid, a so-called canthopexy may be necessary. This involves stabilizing the edge or outer corner of the eyelid while the muscles involved are fixed to the periosteum of the eye socket. In many cases, fixing plasters are used after the wound area has been sutured.
After the lower eyelid lift
Immediate post-operative cooling of the eye area prevents any swelling. A complication-free procedure is often followed by medical suture removal after just 4 days.
As a rule, clients are advised to take it easy physically for a few days after a lower eyelid lift. Vigorous head movements and direct sunlight are also initially contraindicated after the operation.
It is not possible to drive a motor vehicle for approximately 24 hours after the lower eyelid lift, so the customer must ensure that they can be picked up.
Treatment successes
For the majority of people treated, surgical lower eyelid correction leads to aesthetically very satisfactory results. Final treatment success is usually achieved after a few months. If excess skin forms again after several years, this can be countered with a touch-up operation.
Risks & side effects of a lower eyelid lift
After a lower eyelid lift, swelling or bruising may occur in the surgical area for a short time. However, subsequent pain is comparatively rare. Other possible risks of lower eyelid correction include inflammation, wound healing disorders or allergic reactions. Finally, eye injuries rarely occur during the procedure, but cannot be completely ruled out.

Frequently asked questions about lower eyelid lifting
When is a lower eyelid lift an option?
A lower eyelid lift is suitable for customers who suffer from pronounced bags under the eyes. The excess tissue under the skin can be permanently removed during this procedure, giving you a refreshed, alert look.
When will I be socially acceptable again after a lower eyelid lift?
It takes around 10 days before you are socially acceptable again after a lower eyelid lift. This is because the area under the eyes may still be slightly swollen or reddened at first. After a week, you can also wear make-up again to conceal any bruising.
When are the results of a lower eyelid lift visible and how long does it last?
The first immediate effect can be seen immediately after the lower eyelid lift. However, it can take up to 4 weeks until the swelling and bruising have completely subsided and you can enjoy the final results of the treatment. This result is usually permanent. As the skin ages or due to external factors such as stress, excess tissue may accumulate under the eyes again. This can be easily removed with a new lower eyelid correction.
When can I do sports again after a lower eyelid lift?
After a lower eyelid lift, you should initially take it easy and avoid strenuous physical activity. We usually advise our clients to take a two-week break from sport and then slowly increase their activity again.
Does a lower eyelid lift leave scars?
As with any invasive procedure, a lower eyelid lift will leave scars. However, this will hardly be visible from the outside. At our clinic in Zurich, we usually make the incision for the lower eyelid lift just below the eyelashes, so that the scar remains hidden from outsiders and the clients themselves.
