What causes dark circles under the eyes?
The skin under our eyes is naturally very thin, which is why the underlying blood vessels can easily show through it. This effect becomes even more pronounced over time, as the skin continues to lose volume with increasing age. Depending on the individual, this results in more or less pronounced shadows under the eyes, also known as dark circles. Some people also have a genetic predisposition to thin skin under the eyes and often suffer from pronounced dark circles at a young age.

Treatment options for dark circles
The dark shadows under the eyes are often visible because the skin in these areas is naturally very thin or has lost volume due to natural skin ageing. To counteract this effect, gentle injections of hyaluronic acid can be used. This occurs naturally in human tissue and has the ability to bind moisture, creating volume. We make use of this effect and plump up the skin under the eyes in this way. As a result, the blood vessels can no longer shine through and the dark circles under the eyes have visually disappeared.
Can dark circles under the eyes be permanently removed?
Circles under the eyes that appear for genetic or age-related reasons cannot usually be permanently removed. Injections with hyaluronic acid help for a certain period of time before the effect wears off. However, you can maintain the effect for longer by repeating the treatment regularly. It is best to have a top-up treatment before the effect of the hyaluronic acid has completely worn off. This will prevent the unpleasant shadows under the eyes from becoming visible again. How often should I repeat the injection for dark circles?
Over time, the body breaks down the injected hyaluronic acid, causing the effect achieved to disappear. Depending on the metabolism and condition of the skin, this process begins sooner or later. As soon as the effect wears off, we recommend a new treatment in order to maintain the effect for as long as possible. As the frequency of treatment increases, the duration of the effect usually also increases, so that the intervals between treatments can become longer.

How does the treatment of dark circles work?
The first step is a personal consultation at our prevention center. We would like to find out your wishes and ideas and discuss with you which treatment methods are best suited to realizing them. Together we will draw up an individual treatment plan and inform you about the procedure and possible risks of the selected treatment.
If you have decided to have dark circles injected at our prevention center, the area under the eyes is first disinfected and locally anaesthetized using an anaesthetic cream. As soon as the anaesthetic has taken effect, we use a very fine needle to inject the hyaluronic acid into the dark circles. This only takes a few minutes and has an immediate effect. The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis, which means that you can leave the prevention center afterwards. You are immediately fit for social life again and can generally go about your normal everyday activities.
It will take a few days for the hyaluron to bond with the surrounding tissue and for any swelling caused by the injection to subside. Until then, please follow our instructions for aftercare. This will support the healing process and the final result, which can usually be seen after a few days.
What should I bear in mind after tear trough injections?
Please do not apply any pressure to the treatment area after the injection to prevent the hyaluron from moving. Allow yourself 1-2 days rest and refrain from sport and other physically strenuous activities for the first few days after the injection. Avoid intense heat (including sauna) and UV rays (including solarium). If slight redness or swelling develops around the injection sites, you can carefully cool them and/or conceal them with make-up. This is a normal reaction to the injection, which usually disappears on its own after a few days. How long do the results of a dark circles injection last?
This can vary greatly from person to person, as the metabolism and breakdown of hyaluronic acid in the body takes different lengths of time. However, in our experience at the prevention center, the effect of the treatment lasts an average of 4-9 months. Repeated treatment is required to prolong the effect. Simply make another appointment with us in Zurich, Bern, St. Gallen or Zug. By the way: There is no upper limit for the number of refresher treatments. As a rule, the effect lasts longer and longer with increasing frequency, so that the intervals between treatments also become longer.
Is injecting dark circles painful?
As we use very fine needles for the injections, the treatment is very painless. However, the sensation of pain is subjective and what one person barely feels may be painful for another. For this reason, we apply a locally effective anesthetic cream to the treatment area before injections at the prevention center so that you do not feel the injections at all.
